Australasia LNG (AALNG) has awarded the pre-front-end engineering and design (pre-FEED) study contract for its planned LNG-import hub at Probolinggo on east Java in Indonesia to KBR.
KBR says the study, its first for AALNG, covers the onshore LNG regasification and truck-loading distribution. “The pre-FEED study will be further developed for subsequent implementation phases to meet a throughput capacity of three million tonnes a year,” KBR said.
AALNG agreed this summer with Indonesia-based PT Petrogas Jatim Utama to invest US$468 million in floating storage and regasification, moorings and a jetty, according to local news sources. The project will have initial regasification capacity of 2.2 million tonnes a year (mta).
KBR says the pre-FEED study will take 10 weeks, deploying teams from its offices in London and Jakarta and from its subsidiary, Granherne. Its president Asia-Pacific Greg Conlon said: “We look forward to furthering our working relationship with AALNG and to supporting AALNG in their future projects.”
According to its website, AALNG is developing LNG-import projects in Indonesia and in Malaysia.
The Indonesia projects include a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) and mid-scale infrastructure in Bali and a shore-based import venture at Batam. It also plans an onshore mid-scale LNG-distribution venture at Bagan Datoh and a FSRU-based project at Pulau Jarak in Malaysia.
KBR has worked on some 50 LNG-terminal projects, having carried out four FEED studies in Australia, including the Chevron-led Gorgon LNG project. Other previous customers include Nigeria LNG, Yemen LNG and Dragon LNG. (ist)
